TAMILNADU KHADI AND VILLAGE INDUSTRIES BOARD (TNKVIB)

Tamilnadu has tremendous employment opportunities in rural sector. To tap this potential and to provide employment opportunities in rural areas, the Tamilnadu Khadi and Village Industries Board was formed in April 1960 under the Tamilnadu Khadi and Village Industries Board Act, 1959. With main objectives to encourage,promote and assit Khadi and Village industries in rural areas with major focus on artisans and weaker sections to improve their livelihood and to give impetus to self-relaince and strong rural economy.

Objectives

  • To provide employment to the downtrodden and increase employment opportunities.
  • To produce marketable articles by using local resources .
  • To improve the economic conditions of the rural poor by creating self-reliance amongst the people.
  • The Board is pursuing the above objective by implementing schemes formulated by Khadi and Village Industries Commission and Government of Tamilnadu.

Activities

The Tamil Nadu Khadi and Village Industries Board’s activities are divided into two major areas viz “Khadi” and “Village Industries”. The Board’s activities are related to the production and marketing of Khadi and Village Industries products.

  • Healthcare Products like Pain Relief Oil,Eucalyptus oil, Hand wash and shampoo

Apart from Production and Marketing the Board promotes and monitors the Village Industries Co-Operatives and implements the welfare scheme of the Government of India, such as Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme. The Board supports the Potters by giving Annual Maintenance Allowance and Supply of Shaila Wheel to Potters The Board has been running the Khadi and Village Industries Departmental units, which provide employment and livelihood to rural artisans.

The Khadi and Village Industries Board apart from the above said activity, also undertakes the Palm growers federation of Tamil Nadu by monitoring their welfare schemes and involving in production and marketing of edible and non-edible palm products.
